I have been feeling a bit convicted lately about my postings concerning my profession in the Christian Music Industry. I would definitely stand by what I say, but I just don't want to seem like a constant complainer or always having a critique but offering no solution. In light of that I want write today about what I think can be one of the great things about CMI: the songs. I think there can be a great potential for ministry when a person can go to a show and buy a CD and take it home with them and meditate on the words and melodies over and over again. To be sure, there are many songs that don't warrant you doing this, but I would like offer a few songs that over the years have had a great ministry impact on my life. (The links are for iTunes users.)
1. Rich Mullins - "Hold Me Jesus"
2. Chris Rice - "Naive", "Belong", "Untitled Hymn (Come to Jesus)"
3. Steven Curtis Chapman - "Be Still and Know"
4. Amy Grant - "Lead Me On"
5. Mute Math - "Control"
6. Switchfoot - "Dare you to move"
The list could be longer for sure, but I'll leave at that for now. I would love to hear what songs have had a deep impact on you.

I know my list could go on forever, too, but here's a sampling:
Casting Crowns - "Who Am I", "Praise You in This Storm"
Steven Curtis Chapman - "I Am Found In You", "Free", "God is God", "Much of You"
Big Daddy Weave - "Audience of One"
Phillips, Craig, & Dean - "Mighty is the Power of the Cross", "In Christ Alone"
Todd Agnew - "Isaiah 6", "My Jesus"
Jeremy Camp - "I Still Believe"
How could you possibly leave out Amy Grant's "Baby Baby" ????? :-)
Oh well . . . it had a cool synth bass line anyway.
- John
I have been listening to Christian Music for quite a while and even worked in the industry for a few years so I understand some of the complaints you have mentioned but also there have been songs that impacted my life quite a bit. Here are a few.
Steve Bell - Remember me
Fernando Ortega - Let all Mortal flesh keep silent.
Steven Curtis Chapman - For The Sake of the Call
Steve Green- I know that my redeemer liveth
All I Need - Steve Camp
Andrew Peterson - The Silence of God.
These are some of the songs that inspire me, but I could list tons of songs I like to listen to just for fun from bands like.
Dismas, Paloma, Polarboy, Downhere etc.
God Bless,
Doug
I like these an awful lot:
Lincoln Brewster's Psalm 91
Fernando Ortega's Sing to Jesus
Jaci Velasquez's I Will Trust (or something like that)
Zach Nielsen's _________________.
And the older I get the more I like the old-timer hymns...
No Not One
Be Still My Soul
Amazing Grace
How Great Thou Art
etc.
dude, i'll say it again, What about "Big Dif" by Swen?
If you are going to throw in Swen then I will throw in Dewey. They were a formidable duo.
Awww yeahhhhh. Dewey and Swen. it doesn't get any better than that.....
