I just bought the new recording from Sovereign Grace music entitled, Come Ye Weary Saints (iTunes). Download a free song here.
I can say without reservation that this is my favorite recording that they have released. The production is noticeably better which is a big deal to me. This recording doesn't sound like your usual indie church recording. It sounds pro. Like they put a bunch of money into it kind of pro. I don't know if they did or not, but that doesn't really matter. It sounds great.
The other thing that stood out to me with this recording is that quality of singers. Not that they have not had good singers in the past, (they could be all the same for all I know, but with just better production) but this recording seems unique vocally from the previous ones.
I think the final thing I resonate with on this recording is the overall tone. You can tell from the cover art alone that this recording is probably going to be a bit more melancholy. I usually gravitate toward this kind of music in general and the ubiquitous hyper, chipper, "
happy clappy" worship records can get a bit nauseating at times.
I think my favorite songs after just a few listens are:
I would encourage you to give this record a listen. Buy it for the music leader at your church. I'm sure it would be a blessing to him/her and you'll probably find yourself singing some of these songs in your Sunday gathering.
