Recently I was engaged in a converasation with a friend about appropriate dress attire when leading worship. Specifically, my friend was concerned about my wearing sandals when I was upfront leading. It was a good conversation...I'll spare you the details, but our conversation did raise some good questions concerning how we do church.
Bob Kauflin in his Worship Matters blog deals with this issue here. I believe he gives some sage advice.

Louie Giglio touched on this issue briefly in the July installment of 722, a singles Bible study in Atlanta. You can watch it at 722.org. The whole talk isn't about this, which is good because we often get jacked up over stupid issues (like what people are wearing) and forget to keep the main thing the main thing.
Looking at my clothes and not my heart is a prime example of how our little American culture has a Phariseical mindset.
I attend a Southern Baptist church on occassion and i wear jeans, usually some sort of tshirt, and sandals or chuck taylors. I don't look sloppy at all, i'm just dressed in a way that allows me to be on the same level as someone who may walk in the church broken and hurting and just wanting answers.
I believe that "dressing up" creates a wall that prevents the broken from entering the church and seeing Jesus.
