Blogging This Week/Road Trips and Kids

Most likely blogging will be light this week as we are preping to leave for New Mexico. The big phat moving truck leaves out of Nashvegas on Wednesday morning as early as we can get the kids roused and ready to roll.

Here is a question for all you parents out there: Which is more abusive? To strap a 4 year old and a 1 and 1/2 year old in their respective car seats for two 10 hour days of driving or giving them a little somethin' somethin' to help them have a nice long nap on the way? Benadryl perhaps? (We are not talking horse tanqualizers here people)

My contention would be that as long as it's a safe means to make the little ones a bit more sleepy than normal, go for it, and since my wife is a medical professional, it makes me feel that much better about it. We are making today's naptime the test case and see how it goes.

Is there any qualitative difference between an adult taking a sleeping pill for a long international flight and what I just described?

Thoughts?

I say knock those little sinners right out...better asleep than screaming :) On a semi-related note, I believe my parents gave me teething rings wrapped in a cloth with a small amount of bourbon on it when I was teething. Whatever works. Of course, given that I've never had any children, and that I might be permanently tipsy from the childhood hooch therapy, you might want to ignore everything I've just said.

I wish you all the best in NM. I pray that you and your family would continue to grow closer to our Savior through all of these changes. Blessings!

z- we haven't had to think this far ahead yet- but we do have friends who did this to their children- giving them a little sleepy medicine- she is a nurse also and didn't have any problems doing it.

We tried it today on the first day of our long trip... it did not work. Taylor did not sleep at all and Autumn only slept for an hour. I think might need to move to Jack Daniels or something like that... :)

Sometimes the best drug is a portable TV and some new Disney DVD's. Oh well, You're probably already on day two of your trip. Remember, what does not kill you makes you stronger.

The real question Z is, will your new church job let you spend hours a day blogging and playing yahoo chess?
