Reactions to American Idol

1. Can someone please explain to me what is going on with Sanjaya? Dude needs to move on.

2. Holy cow, can you say 80's fashion? It made me want to break out my old white and pastel Miami Vice jacket that I wore in 3rd grade. I need to get a "members only" jacket and start wearing it around again.

3. Jordin is the best singer even though tonight she did a song that did not show it very well.

Dude I am feeling the 80's fashion thing too. I would go get myself some of those footless leggings with the lace at the bottom if Dan hadn't made me swear to a strict "NO LEGGINGS" policy when we got married.

Hmmm...

First off Sanjaya and the faux-hawk have got to go. The train-wreck was fun for a while, now I'm just indignant toward him (pls let it be tonight!).

We also commented on the decidedly 80s styles for a few folks (Haley's big hair was very 80s). However in the 80s defense since they had to do songs by artists that influenced No Doubt & Gwen that means the 80s were ripe for the pickin.

So you think Jordin is the best singer? I'd have to say Melinda Dolittle - IMHO. And Blake get's my vote for most interesting personality (Chris Sligh is interesting, but his voice doesn't do much for me).

Side note, I was shocked how Phil nailed the Police song! I'm not a huge fan of his (his style kills me), but wow his vocal was pretty strong for that style/genre and I was surprised by that.

brad here:

dude, jordin is going to surprise everyone...she is the total package...

melinda is the same thing everyweek...and her stage presence is straight out of a gospel church [nothing wrong with, just 'nichey']

Brad - Hmmm... You may be right about Melinda's stage presence... a bit gospel choir-ish (her very short neck is a bit funky too - not to be too superficial, but these things kinda matter if you are talk "total package"). Still I think she's got the best pipes & has a good shot (maybe she'd be best on Broadway tho?).

There was something not-as-convincing about Jordin last night to me... her "cutting lose" seemed forced and uncomfortable - altho she did do a good job, I just wasn't sold on the presentation (sounds like you were so maybe I'm in the minority). Time will tell tho.

Do any of you actually vote?

I have to say Melinda has the best voice. I just don't know if she has enough "star" factor.

Sweet pipes though. Big props.

I think Melinda has by far the best voice. Have you heard her go into her lower register. It's chilling. Amazing control. Now obviously she's picking songs that show that off and I'm not sure she could pull off, "Hey Baby, Hey Baby, Hey. Girl say, girls say." I'm not even sure Jordan can pull that off. I think Melinda needs to drop the "OK-I'm-done-singing-now-
look-really-scared-thing."

About Sanjaya. I heard there was a group of Idol haters that were power voting for Sanjaya just to keep him on the show and throw things off. Only in America.
