Saturday Night Easter

Easter weekend was a bit different for me this year since we had three church services. One on Saturday night and then two on Sunday morning. Saturday was weird because we had Easter service on Saturday night. I had never done that before. I don't have any big theological objection to it, but it was just odd since I always think of Easter as a bright and sunny Sunday morning. To cap things off, it snowed a bit on Saturday here in Albuquerque. I had never experienced that on Easter

All in all it was a great weekend, but what do you think? Would you go to church on Saturday night for Easter?

Given the time zone difference from where Christ was crucified, maybe Saturday night is more appropriate! :)

I actually have no problem with the Saturday night idea, as its a remembrance of Christ's resurrection.. which we actually should be aware of on more than just Easter (not saying we aren't.. just stating that as a society, perhaps we should be more worried that we don't recognize His resurrection the other 363 days of the year than we are about recognizing it on Saturday AND Sunday instead of just Easter Sunday). But that's just me.

Zach-
In my previous life we had Sat night Easter service and made a cross out of flowers which was used at the Sunday service. I appreciated the simplicity of our Sat night service versus the Sunday morning blow out.

We went Sat. night at PV, it was a little weird and informal (meaning I didn't see any ladies in huge pastel hats with fake flowers) but it worked for me!

I kinda grew up with Sat. afternoon/evening Easter Services (and Christmas Eve services not on Christmas eve, etc.) at Willow (if you call "growing up" in church from when I was the age of 23 and on.) I just never thought any thing of it. The day/time is so irrelevant to me. Of course, I usually was also THERE on Sunday morning since I was involved in the services, so I guess I had the best of both worlds.

We had 2 Saturday night Easter services at Parkview - 4:30pm and 6pm. I can't be sure of this, but the 4:30pm service may just have been the most well attended of any the whole weekend. It was PACKED to the walls. And this is for a church that struggled with the idea of a Sat. night Easter service just a year ago. Once you do it and just keep doing it, people won't mind and accept - in fact they come to find out how much they enjoy it and appreciate having multiple days to spread it out.

By the way - check out pics from PV Easter on my blog - http://groovematters.blogspot.com
