To a Thousand Generations

Psalm 105:8-10: He remembers his covenant forever, the word that he commanded, for a thousand generations, the covenant that he made with Abraham, his sworn promise to Isaac, which he confirmed to Jacob as a statute, to Israel as an everlasting covenant

O. Palmer Robertson comments:
According to this Scripture, it is to a thousand generations that the covenant promise extends. This reference to a thousand generations implies an eternal covenant. but it suggest more. The genealogical emphasis contains the idea of eternal succession. never will the line of the faithful be cut off completely. In every generation the line of God's covenant people shall be maintained.
-O. Palmer Robertson, The Christ of the Covenants, p. 37

As our American society continues to grow increasingly more unaware of the gospel it is helpful for me to remember that God promises to continue to build his church. He will remain faithful. He will be true to his promise.
