I have had the whole record for about a week now and I can say for certain that this will launch them into "epic rock band" status. This record is really, really good. You don't want to miss it.

lovers in japan...maybe my favorite coldplay song to date.
Please!!
This album is GARBAGE. I went on an all day mountain trip yesterday listening and re-listening to this CD trying to like.
Each loop gave me another reason to want to throw it out the window!
you people are 'coldplay disillusioned' and think just because its coldplay they can't make a bad album
this record is a steaming pile
I can't agree Zach. I considered Coldplay to be one of those bands that get better with each album. When X&Y came out, it dominated my iPod for weeks on end. I still get goosebumps when I hear some of the hooks and guitar parts. Those songs sound HUGE.
I've listened to Viva La Vida several times in a row now and it sounds Coldplay doing a bland imitation of Coldplay.
And as much as I hate to say it, some of it sounds so contrived and self-conscious. I know Coldplay is pretty self-conscious, but these arrangements and melodies don't strike me as having the ooomph as those on X&Y.
Rico and Stephen,
Guys... seriously? SERIOUSLY?
Put down the weed and give it a few more weeks.
:)
That record is unreal good. Can't stop listening to it.

Coldplay was already an epic rock band before this album.
Ditto w/whit - "Lovers in Japan is the best track on the album.
This albums' attention to detail is STAGGERING. There' snot one song where they took the predictable, easy way out. Listen to the acoustic version of "Lost?", which is how Chris Martin originally wrote the song, and then listen to the album version of "Lost!" and fact the truth - you couldn't have come up with an arrangement that good in a million years.
Listen to what the drums AREN'T doing - it's genius.
Anyone who hates this album now will be singing its praises in 2 months. Very few truly great albums have instant appeal - tey need to grow on you. Martin Smith, of Delirious, famously returned his copy of "The Joshua Tree" saying "It's not up to much".
Coldplay could have been predictable and probably satisfied everyone whining about this album. Instead they created something completely new and unexplored. These guys have balls.
But then again, church is hardly the place to find innovative musicians and song writers (snap!)..
clown music
repetition and chants?
thats epic?
coldplay should have done us all a favor and released this as an instrumental
other than 'epic' lines like "keep on soldierin' on" this is a waste of plastic
steves right, you brainwashed loons think coldplay couldn't possibly make bad music, so you listen until you've convinced your lemming selves its good
Patrick - don't worry, there will be a new easy-to-understand Britney Spears album out soon...
mp,
an album so repetitive they put the same song on twice, ballads followed by chants
epic!
brilliant!
deep!
pathetic!
