You don't like Billy! Wow. I understand, I guess. He's rather opinionated.

I will say, though, that he does at least attempt to offer analysis on the game. Though this would seem rather faint praise for a man whose job description is "color commentator", I assure you it is not, as a cursory listen to most other "analysts" will prove. Most guys seem to think that the following qualifies as analysis:

-rapturous praise of the superstar, often embarassing for the viewer ("Look at the shoulders on Howard--those are some guns. He's a beast, and he's taking no prisoners.")
-rudimentary discussion of a given player's thoughts ("He knew that Lebron would hit that shot, that's why he chest-bumped him")
-use of a player's name followed by a sound effect, preferably onmatopeic ("Amare Stoudemire--with the thunder! Kazow!")
-barbed jocularity with the other announcers ("Van Gundy doesn't know nothing--he was fired from how many teams")

Though Hubie Brown and Packer and Walton and Len Elmore have numerous ideosyncrasies, one can't deny that they at least attempt to analyze the game.

There is no lower bar for intellectual commentary than sports announcing. Nothing. My wife periodically walks into the room when I'm watching a basketball game, listens to the commentary for a minute, and snorts to herself. Never fails. I can't blame her.

I think my favorite is Hubie. Obviously he knows the game. Packer just always seemed to negative. Not that an announcer shouldn't be negative, but it just seemed to be the dominant theme with him.
