I haven't seen it, but heard people calling in last night late on Chicago radio that had just seen the midnight show, as well as have read several reviews. Everyone says the same thing - astounding all the way around, and Ledger is sure to win an Posthumous Oscar - and not just because he died but truly for a brilliant/earth shaking performance. The musical score is supposed to be fantastic as well .
I won't lie when I say I was incredibly excited in the anticipation for this movie. After reading reviews, I started to get even more anxious to see it. I didn't want to get to hyped up for it, because I've been let down before by others (i.e. Spider Man 3, Pirates 3). But believe me when I say this: The Dark Knight WILL go down as a classic. Not just as a comic book movie, but for films in general.
Everything from the acting, direction, screenplay, action, music, and the story are top notch and spot on. The film captivated my attention for 2 and 1/2 hours, leaving me no room to think about anything else. The story is deep and real enough to convince you that what you're watching could actually happen.
Part of that believable story is Heath Ledger's performance. I won't say anything, because everyone else will say it for me- but everything you've heard is true. If he is the only reason you see this movie, it's still a fantastic reason.
Long story short is this- The best comic book movie of all time. One of the best crime dramas of all time. One of the best films of the decade. Get the idea?

Heath Ledger is a force of nature, there's enough humor to keep it from being totally depressing, the action sequences are amazing... Just go see it.
