Jesus Spins Me 'Round?

I know we can't be totally concerned about what unbelievers might think when they come into a worship gathering of Christians and don't understand all that is going on, but this seems a bit over the top. I don't know whether to laugh or cry...

Well, I did laugh, but I felt like crying too. This video is an example to me of how so much of the evangelical church in America today seems very giddy but terribly shallow theologically. Now, God knows that I certainly need to tremble more in awe before His holiness... but man, where *is* the holiness of God at all in these types of "worship services"??

Jesus doesn't "spin me right round like a record"-- He breaks me, and heals me, with His love because He took the Father's righteous wrath that *I* deserved for my sin, so that I could become a child of God.

It's very good to be euphorically joyful in God, but that joy must be grounded in some very *serious* realities-- such as God's holy hatred of sin, our depravity as sinners, Jesus's substitutionary atonement on our behalf, and our being forgiven and accepted by God because of that atonement. If our joy in God is not grounded in these sorts of *serious* realities, we will be shallowly giddy in how we think of God and how we worship Him-- inside and outside of our church gatherings.

Oh, for a resurgence of the understanding of God's holiness among American Christians (including in my own heart)! I can't help but think that careful application of the regulative principle of worship in more churches would be a start...

couple immediate thoughts:

1.) I want to throw up
2.) Why does it look as if everyone on stage and in the room is in dire need of having to go to the bathroom? (swaying back and forth, etc?)
3.) Sterner needs hair like the worship leader
4.) It's pretty obvious I think anyway that this is a TV show - not a "church" - at least I hope so anyway. Appears the target age might be teens but who knows. (haven't looked at the original source on YouTube.)

Beyond all the obvious theological problems with this, I was disgusted and disturbed by the fact that everyone was swinging their dirty socks throughout the room. Could you imagine getting hit in the face with that? Ugh...

Sir, there is no way I would have believed this happened had I not seen it myself.

"Wow" is right.

I'm flabbergasted. Not so much at the lyrics (after all, christians have been doing cheesy rip-offs of pop music since, like, forever).

But at the very notion that a group of people would so easily and mindlessly do whatever they're told. A chubby boy with a mike tells you to take your socks off and wave them around -- and you DO it? Makes religious people look stupid, gullible and easily led.

Yea,

I don't know whether to laugh or cry. The whole thing seems pretty strange from the spinning tube socks to the wacky hair to the fact that people don't really know what they are doing but think they are OK since they say "Jesus" in the middle of the song.
