Writing in Slate, pro-abortion advocate Linda Hirshman is delighted that the platform for the Democratic party has now abandoned the language of making abortion "safe, legal, and rare" (it's the rare part that raises her ire). "The Democratic platform of 2008," she writes, "offers an opportunity to put an end to this self-destructive cycle of Safe, Legal, and Rare, otherwise known as regret, depression, and self-denigration.""With the release of the new platform, and so long as the Obama campaign doesn't cast the platform into purgatory and pick an anti-abortion candidate—like Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine—for vice president, the emancipation of women may once again become a legitimate political position. It is time to revive the moral argument for protecting a woman's right to choose: Abortion is about the value of women's lives."Read the whole thing
My comment: Again I'll remind us that whenever we hear someone say something like the above quote, make them articulately what they are choosing. Make them say it. They won't want to. This should be a clue as to what is really going on with abortion and how it affects us. "What exactly are you choosing?"

This article was written from a very strange perspective.
I've met many Pro-choicers and I've never met one that didn't agree that we need to reduce abortion. Yes, abortion should be rare. Apparently this woman thinks it should also be government funded and paid for.
I also don't get why women's rights have to neccessarily mean abortion on demand. "Women's lives" do not consist of being able to do what they want at the expense of another.
