Last night we had our first home group meeting for the 08-09 season of ministry. We are going to do a study through the book, The Drama of Scripture, by Craig G. Bartholomew and Michael W. Goheen. I explained to the group why it's extremely valuable to be able to articulate a general overview of the Bible's narrative from a 30,000 ft. view. This book helps us be able to do just that. The technical term for this is, Biblical Theology. If you have not checked out this book, I would recommend it. If you want to use this as a small group resource there are prepared study questions that you can find here. I plan on using them for our group.
We also highlighted a couple verses that can point to the importance of home groups:
Hebrews 3:12-14 - Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. 13 But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. 14 For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end.
Romans 12:9-13 - Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. 10 Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. 11 Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, [7] serve the Lord. 12 Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. 13 Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.
