I remember my first Christmas in the pastorate when I made a comment in Sunday School to the effect that December 25th is probably not the date of Christ's birth. An indignant older gentleman interrupted with "Don't you believe the Bible?"
I asked him to show me where the Bible gave this information, and he said that he would look it up at home and get back to me. He must have spent the better part of that week looking for this, and admitted the following Sunday: "I didn't find it, but I know that it is in there someplace."
