Some Reflections On New Years Resolutions

Most of us look to the new year with a renewed sense of commitment to things that we wanted to accomplish last year or should have been doing all year long.  Lose the weight, read through the Bible, exercise more, etc.  You know the typical list and I'm sure you have yours.

Yesterday in our singing time at DSC I challenged our people to reflect less about what we are going TO DO and more about what Christ HAS DONE and WIll DO.

My hunch is that if we focus this year more on the fact that Christ has died, was raised again and will come again to make all things right, our resolutions will have a different shape, tone, and motivation than if we just resolve to get a bunch of tasks done.

May our vision of God and his moving in history shape our present and future doings.  Rest in the Gospel and let that propel your acting in this moment forward.

Some possible questions to ask about your resolutions:

Do our resolutions have points of intersection with God's kingdom priorities?
What is our motivation?
Does this source of motivation have any enduring affect?  If so, how?
