Reflections on our Adoption - Part 7

Thinking about differences in skin color sheds light on the gospel. My black daughter, Mya, and I don't have our skin color in common, but we have a sin nature in common. We are united around our need for a Savior.

When the Bible tells us that "while we were yet sinners Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8) we should remember that God adopted sinners into his family. Differences in black and white skin color and all the cultural baggage that comes with it does not compare to the differences between a holy God and sinful humans.

Transracial adoption is a significant step that some look upon as rather challenging. But it is far less challenging than God looking upon those who trample upon his glory and choosing to adopt some of them into his family. Is it not amazing that God adopts those that are so radically different than himself?

If God can adopt sinners, skin color (or other differences) should not be a barrier for us. Yes, like God, there may be a cross to bear, but for the joy set before us we move forward and look to the blessing of obedience.
