You Won't Hear This Very Often In Your Local Church

"I haven't always been a Christian. I didn't go to religion to make me happy. I always knew a bottle of Port would do that. If you want a religion to make you feel really comfortable, I certainly don't recommend Christianity."
-- C.S. Lewis, 'Answers to Questions on Christianity,' God in the Dock

True words indeed. Jesus doesn't offer the superficial, fragile, circumstantial peace that the world offers. In some ways, being a Christian has *increased* the suffering in my life-- but God has also given me the grace to endure that suffering. The peace of Christ carries us *through* suffering, not necessarily out of it-- at least not in this life.

This conflicts with the idea of the recent trend of being "seeker sensitive".
