Church Participation and Abortion Doctors

Jerod Clark:

There’s been a lot of passion and finger pointing surrounding the recent murder of Dr. George Tiller. He’s a well known Wichita, Kansas doctor who performed late term abortions. Last Sunday, Tiller was shot to death in his church, where he was an usher.

How about we stay away from the typical abortion arguments to answer a couple key questions a co-worker of mine posed about the situation:

How would you handle going to church with someone who is an abortion doctor? Could you stand next to him and worship by his side knowing what he did for a living?

My answer would be yes, I could still worship because my hope is in God and not in the spiritual performance of myself or others. That being said, I would quickly cease attending any church where the leadership did not address this sin. Think about it like this: Would you continue to attend a church where you knew that one of the attendees was systematically killing toddlers? Of course not. (To be sure, if someone is killing toddlers, the justice system would hopefully be involved very quickly. This should give us a window into the insanity of abortion.) What is the difference between killing a baby at 8 months in the womb and killing a 10-month-old out of the womb? I would argue that there is no significant difference between those different ages that should be grounds for killing one and not the other.

All your major points are good. We gather with others to worship, but we worship the Living God and our Risen Savior Jesus Christ.

Do you know what kind of Lutheran church it was he attended? I won't assume aloud, although I do privately....

One thing that really gets me is that our taxpayer dollars are being used not only to pay for many abortions, but also to PROTECT unborn baby murderers by Deputy US Marshals after something like this happens (see the UPDATE near the beginning of this article).

Do abortionists have the right to life and justice? Yes, just as much as did the babies they've murdered should have had. "Their foot shall slide in due time" (Deuteronomy 32:35), and with governments instituted by God, even imperfect ones, I do not think (almost all the time) that it's the job of vigilantes to effect justice. But IS IT the role of Federal Agents to protect the American SS?

When will the day come when abortionists are rounded up rather than protected by the US Dept. of Justice?! Ever? In my lifetime?
