Christianity Today has an interesting interview with Derek Webb. Right off the bat they tackle the issue of him dropping the S-bomb in one of his songs on the new record.
I have felt for a couple years now that Derek has been increasingly seeking controversy, perhaps for its own sake. He is eschewing labels of any sort and refuses to let himself get nailed down (I think of "Name" off the Ringing Bell).
But for all the tearing down he has done as of late, I don't know what Derek specifically stands for. He is regrettably silent on the why and how. Are we to leave our republican affiliations only to follow Tony Campolo, Jim Wallis, and Joel Hunter and their flawed theology? He doesn't say.
