John Piper on Twitter and Having A Web Presence In General

John Piper:
I wouldn't waste too much time on Twitter. Wasting time on the web, whether it's blogging or Twitter or whatever, can really be a killer. So be very careful. It's just fraught with dangers, especially ego dangers of people saying, "O yeah, I'll get an account. How many followers can I get? Woohoo! I'm up to 100 followers!" or whatever.

I just think it's so unbelievably dangerous, so I want to be checking myself all the time about why I do this. Do I really love the church and want to bless the church? Or do I just like having people listen to me?

So just be careful with these wonderful gifts God has given us.

I was shocked to learn that Piper actually writes his own tweets.

Z, your comment on Piper's authoring his own tweets cracked me up!

I listened to his comments yesterday. He has a point, but he's focusing on the negative IMO. Maybe that's his job after all. Much as I love him but don't like the negativity, maybe he's the dad who has to occasionally say: don't jump on that jagged rock.

BTW, I loved his son's YouTube intro. Good stuff if you haven't seen it.

What's so shocking that John Piper actually writes his own tweets? Nothing of what I've learned from him through reading his books, blog posts, or comments on his son's 22 words leads me to believe he would need or want to consider having anyone else select his words for him.

(Not that I know him any better than I know you. Would you want to have someone else represent you to the world if you could? Why would it surprise you that he writes his own tweets?)

Probably just for the same reason that some big time pastors have ghost writers, etc.
