Stop cleaning the kitchen and read a book

Susan Wise Bauer with a great article on self-education and it's connection to reading.  She talks about the why and how of reading and especially the reading of great old books.  This is article has many great applications for Christians and spiritual formation.

As John Piper often says, "Raking is easy, but all you get are leaves. Digging is hard, but sometimes you get diamonds."  If you resonate with that quote, I would encourage you to read this short article.

A great article for me today. Thanks for sharing it. I would write more, but I must go read now.

Good thoughts. We don't currently follow the classical style of homeschooling, but I do appreciate that approach. With the stuff I tend to read - Augustine, Owen, Calvin, Milton - I really don't have a choice: I have to dig slow and deep! I regret not starting 20 years earlier, but even here, as your article's author has said, there's no rush.
