Proselytizing The Cause of World Unrest?

Interesting opinion column in the NY Times by Robert Wright concerning the presumed relationship between Christian proselytizing of Muslims and violent strife in various parts of the world.  I'll let you click over and give it a read to see his short argument fleshed out.

Some thoughts:

1.  Jesus promised that there would be strife in light of our witness for him.  No big surprise here.

2.  A follow up question to #1 should be, "Is the strife due to the simply and humble witness of Christians seeking to proclaim a biblical gospel or are there other competing factors?"  Violence is rarely simple.  Might be helpful to dig a bit deeper into the culture, methods of evangelism, and history.

3.  Seems a bit ironic that this opinion piece seeks to convince us that proselytizing is the cause of all this violence but means of communicating this argument is a form of proselytizing in itself.  We all have a point of view and we all want to communicate it.  This is undeniable empirically and ontologically.  Is proselytizing the problem or is it something deeper?
