Good point about the video devices - I feel the same way. It seems girls, while falling to overmuch "social networking" like texting and facebook, still may appreciate the emotional and relational aspects of many books. However, boys are now overly drawn to the visual and "exciting" as potentially found in TV and PC monitors. Yet by God's grace, may they still come to cherish the deep things - the theology, the good fiction, the history, etc. I write as a father of "two of each", with my youngest boy just now begining with "chapter books". Might be a while before I can give him some Owen.
20-25 years ago we switched to teaching styles which favored the female brain in elementary grade levels because we believed they were collectively falling behind. Now we face the exact opposite problem.
More unintended consequences of social tinkering.
