Can a "Poor" College Student Really Make a Difference?

Michael Kelley:
I wrote last week a little of my experience at Passion 2011. As a part of that experience, students were challenged to “Do Something Now.” Here are the results, from the Passion blog:
For us at Passion, being a movement for Jesus means loving the things He loves and moving where He moves in an effort to make Him happy and bring His light and love to all people of the world.  Knowing that Jesus always moves to the weak, the poor, the prisoner and to those without a voice, Do Something Now has become a vital part of the fabric of every Passion gathering.
Over the four days of Passion 2011 Atlanta, over 22,000+ were rocked to the core and united for the world. We were challenged to partner with amazing organizations to fund ten local/global causes at a cost of $470,000.
Total Given at Passion 2011 Atlanta: $1,167,249.24
Absolutely staggering. But it points to a couple of things worth saying out loud. First of all, our God is not dead – not in any generation. He is alive and working and laughs at those who say that the Church is dying out. Secondly, I believe experiences like this bolster the fact that we are not rebelling against God. We aren’t rebelling against the church. We are rebelling against a watered-down, simplistic, self-help style gospel that requires very little.
We want something worth giving everything we have to. Something worth dying for.
Read the rest of his post for the breakdown of what all the money went to.
