The Art of Question Dodging

Rob Bell doesn't like to answer questions directly.  See below:

But Carl Trueman says Rob can't hold a candle to this guy below.  He writes:
For anyone who may be tempted to be impressed by the Rev. Bell's ability to dodge questions posed by a British interviewer, as flagged by Justin Taylor, don't be.   The Dodgemeister is still Michael Howard, former British Home Secretary, interviewed by Jeremy Paxman over his role in the Derek Lewis debacle.  Howard clearly missed his calling as a trendy megachurch pastor; and Paxo just as certainly missed his as one of those nasty people who believe that the truth is out there.  As for Bell, by comparison: not even close; so you can certainly forget the cigar.

For what it's worth, deconstructing the question would've been worthwhile. Bashir asks "Is God all-powerful and doesn't care about us, or cares about us and is not all-powerful?"

A scenario to show that it isn't the right question would be to respond by asking how Bashir would respond if, should he require a child of his to eat dinner before having ice cream, the child asked him, "Do you hate me or ice cream?"

We often understand the purpose of pain about as well as a child understands not having ice cream NOW.
