Not Grudging Obedience

This is a guest post from Chris Brauns.

John Frame:
Grudging obedience is not what he desires of us. It may be better than no obedience at all, but it is seriously defective. We should seek, not only to obey him, but also to delight in obedience. That delight comes from prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, through immersion in the words of Scripture and the hearts of the great saints of redemptive history, and through the fellowship of the church in Word and sacrament. The Doctrine of the Christian Life, 306.

I agree. However, I have a question: are there circumstances where one obeys the Lord without any showings of delight in the obeying, and it still be glorious to the Lord? I'm thinking here of Jesus at the garden of Gethsemane and others who follow the Lord into very difficult circumstances that weigh so heavily on their soul that they are somber in their obedience, not joyful. If you have time, I'd been interested on yours and others thoughts. Thanks!
