Can Kindle Fire Rival the iPad?

Probably not, but you can judge for yourself.

The Kindle Fire will be a nice device for those who don't presently have a tablet, and at an attractive price, but it is no iPad killer.

I have a Kindle3, and it is a good ebook reader. I have a Motorola Xoom (rooted w/ custom ROM), and it is a good tablet device. I have both because the Kindle allows me to read books in a natural fashion via eInk and the Xoom allows me to browse the web. I can't imagine reading on a backlit device, like the new Kindle Fire, so I won't be buying one since it doesn't give me anything that I don't already have. However, if I didn't have the Xoom I might consider one as a web browsing device, but not as an ebook reader.

Definitely NOT an iPad killer. But if we're looking at bang for your buck - it easily beats the iPad. You can't use it as a tablet computer like the iPad (or others), but from my understanding, anything related to media or web browsing can be done which is what 90% of people buy a tablet for anyways. Most people aren't buying an iPad to do work on. Also, the free space and unlimited access to the cloud is the #1 selling point. No more limitations on how much stuff you can have.

That said, in this economy you be the judge. If all you want is a nice size media hub, would you rather pay $200, or $500??? I'm pretty sure a good portion of people would say $200. This release won't come anywhere near killing the iPad, but I do think it will hurt it a fair amount.
