Signs of Life in Pop-Culture

I don't own a TV anymore.  I don't say that in order to wave the flag of over-spiritualized false humility.  I say it because it's true.  I don't have a clue anymore what shows are "hot" and I honestly don't care.  But I do have a 27inch iMac with a Netflix account.  So if I need access to TV or movies I have the resource.

Recently a friend of mine told me that Friday Night Lights is/was the best show on TV.  I was skeptical.  How interesting can Texas high school football be?  I read the book in high school and saw the full length movie.  Do we really need another angle?

Evidently we do and I am thankful.  We are only two episodes in and the show is completely riveting.  Great acting, great character development, really good music, and very interesting cinematography.  Everything about this show is unique.

It also presents a great marriage.  Usually on TV the Dad is a complete idiot while the wife leads, guides, and holds it all together.  This show is not that way.  The presentation of marriage and what it should be is very strong.  Again, we are only two episodes in but already I am very impressed.

Just when I thought pop-culture couldn't get any dumber I am pleasantly surprised.  You might want to check it out.
