The incredible news regarding faith is that from start to finish, God is in the business of making up for what we lack. And we lack much. In a base sense we lack anything that could possibly merit the love of God, and yet in the cross Jesus makes up for what we lack.- Michael Kelley, Wednesdays Were Pretty Normal, p. 35
That pattern doesn’t stop once we enter into relationship with the Lord either. It’s amazing and glorious to think about the fact that even now, in the middle of our doubt and fear, Jesus Himself lives to intercede for us at the right hand of the Father. He’s praying for us right now. And in those moments when we don’t know what or how to pray, the Holy Spirit intercedes for us with deeper, more emotional, and more pure groanings and pleadings than we can possibly understand.
How astounding to consider that when we pray, we enter a conversation about us already going on among the members of the Trinity. Given that, what’s left for us is simply to come and pray. To be honest with God—good, bad, and ugly included. We come to Jesus not as we can’t but as we can. Not as we aren’t but as we are. And we believe that Jesus can make up for all that we lack.
