You should read this article. This is our brave new world. I have said it many times on this blog but I'll say it again. There is a storm coming. We have no idea what we are doing and we will reap the consequences in the the following generations. It won't be pretty.
As a side note, any faux outrage at what is being produced by our pornified culture is surely naive at best. Can we really say that the details described in the article linked above are any big shocker? What did we think would happen in our culture of "sexual liberation"? Only a few of the chickens have come home to roost and many more are on the way.
It's hard to be angry about teenagers "sexting" when everything they see on TV and movies revolves around this very thing. Are we really that shocked when a teenage boy wants to demand oral sex from his 13-year-old girlfriend? 1+1=2 and boys who have unlimited access to porn = demanding to act that out in real life. Again, why is this so shocking? It's simple human nature.
Is it not the height of hypocrisy when adults feign outrage at what our kids are doing when we are the ones who have created this culture and consume it as well? Doesn't the phrase, "Do as I say, not as I do" still annoy us? Apparently not.
You can't say that we didn't ask for this. Don't tell me you want change on this issue unless you are ready to overhaul the culture. We have done this. We don't know what we are doing but shouldn't we know exactly what we are doing? Is it really that hard to figure out?
All this makes me quite angry. The casualties (literal and figurative) that are in our future will be utterly heart-breaking. May we provide a better way.
Resist the culture of porn. Resist the objectification of women. Resist the fleeting joy of immediate pleasure that leads to death. Resist the sacrificing of our children on the alter of "sexual freedom".
May Gospel-saturated believers be salt and light in this area by word and deed.
