Can I wear my swim trunks in church?
A few weeks back there was a lively discussion on this site concerning appropriate attire to wear in church. This article from Mark Driscoll gives an interesting perspective on the subject.

On the dressing for church issue. I feel any kind of shorts are innappropriate. Sometimes I see the ushers wear shorts on Saturday when the dress is usually casual and I think, Why would someone serve in the church wearing shorts?
I believe in modesty too. I see too many girls and young women who wear low cut blouses/shirts/dresses and mini-skirts or shorts.
The first time you come to a church, you shouldn't be run out but, you should be told if your dress is unacceptable.
I preach in many different churches, and I do not appreciate the obstacle to the gospel that a "dress code" presents. I refuse to wear a jacket / sport coat when I preach simply because that's what people think the preacher "should wear."
In response to the question about having dinner with the President of the United States, my answer is always that I would dress casually if the President of the United States were my friend. God is both the greatest being in the universe and the closest friend we can have. I cannot believe that our culturally-driven view of clothing has as much bearing on our faith as some peopel think it does.
I'm glad this issue is being discussed, though, because it does force us to talk about how the culture unknowingly effects our application of the gospel when "this is the way we've always done it" for at least one generation.
The president of the US analogy is not a good one either since there is not real parallel between our relationship with God (infinite and intimate, creator, savior, etc) and the Pres.
Very limited analogy and simply does not work biblically.
