The Story of Stuff

Joshua Harris says:
Set aside some time to watch this. I think it can help Christians see the connections between "the disease of greed" and some very negative consequences in our world. Contentment isn't just personally rewarding, it's good for our neighbors and for the planet.

This presentation makes many startling and 'call for action' points. Frankly, I get overwhelmed thinking about how large the problem is and what my role in the solution might be (not to mention how much or whether God will hold believers responsible for a lifestyle which harms other people indirectly - if indeed it does).
One missing point is this: who makes large corporations so evil/greedy? WE DO. Investors do - investors typically want nothing more than the best return on their investment as possible.
The corporations then take whatever steps they can in order to provide you as the investor with the best return possible for your dollar. I suggest that we take much more seriously an awareness of what company stocks our 401k's etc are invested in. Complicating matters are mutual funds which typically shield the common investor from knowing which specific companies are being invested in.
