Vacation Was Good - Good To Be Home

We are officially done with vacation. It was great. Things went well and we had a great time seeing family while making the trek across the Midwest (three cities in 7 days). We were able to bypass our usual travel challenges. There are so many variables that could possibly go wrong when you travel with three kids under the age of 5, but we were able to bypass our usual travel challenges... Well, with two slight exceptions...

1. Our flight last Saturday was scheduled to get in at midnight, but we were delayed and didn't get in until 1:30am. By the time we got our bags, the rental car, found the hotel, and dealt with the hotel clerk who had been on the job for about 2 days and couldn't figure out how to check us in (took about 1/2 an hour and at 2:30am Daddy was not happy) we didn't get to bed until about 2:45am. This would not be THAT big of a deal had not the hotel fire alarm gone off at 6:15am. Daddy was not happy again. (Do you like it when I refer to myself as "Daddy" in the 3rd person? I do.) We were on the 4th floor so I had to go down and check it out. False alarm. Some dude burned his waffles in the kitchen area. Not good. The kids didn't wake up so that was good and we were able to get a few more hours a sleep.

2. We were on our 5th day of vacation and leaving the Minneapolis area and headed toward Sioux Falls. We got about 5 mins on the way and our usually super chipper and vibrant 3 year old daughter said, "I want to go home, I don't feel good". If you know here, you know this is not normal. What is also not normal is when you turn your head around an hour later to look at her and see her covered in red puke. Man sized puke. Rank, stank, curl your toes, hideously smelling puke. Amazing how much substance can come out of a three-year-old. Luckily there was a gas station very close and we stopped for a while to get the van cleaned up and our little one taken care of. She barfed a couple more times on the rest of the way, but thankfully not quite as dramatically. She was feeling like her old self 12 hours later.

Those two incidents aside, we had a great time and thankful for the time off and reconnection with family.
