Boyd on Dark Knight

Dr. Greg Boyd is a very smart man with some very dangerous theology. Here is his conclusion after watching Dark Knight:
This motif of Dark Knight harshly captures the truth that so much of life (and one could easily believe all of life) is governed by mindless chance. Why was I born me rather than you? Why does one person live a long productive life while an infant dies after five days? Why is one family slaughtered by a tornado while the family next door goes unscathed? What (more than chance) really separates Batman and the Joker? With a vengeance, The Dark Knight forces us to look straight into the arbitrariness of life and ask the question: Is this the last word about the way things really are?
I just can't square this with a Biblical worldview. Ask Job, Joseph, Paul and Jesus (and even a little sparrow for that matter, Matt 10:29) if their suffering was "governed by mindless chance".

This worldview (or actually, a more inconsistent, Arminian "spin" on it) caused the first few years of my Christian life to be filled with worry, anxiety, and just a general lack of joy. Boyd's theology attempts to be "kind" to those who are suffering, but it causes more suffering in the long run by taking away confidence in a sovereign God. This theology also tries to "protect" God's goodness, but it undercuts His sovereignty and foreknowledge, effectively making Him *not* the God of the Bible. Lastly, it gives a picture of life where God is not in control, and we are at the mercy of man's cruelty and life's chaos. Boyd has some good things to say about American Christians, culture, and politics, but too much of his theology is very bad news.

I can't square anything but Boyd's statement with a biblical worldview.

Sife,

Come on dude... You can't just drop a bomb like that and then leave it unsupported. Seriously, I expect more than that from Thunder Dan. Bring it.

If one can't derive theological perspective from George Michael's 1990 masterpiece Listen Without Prejudice Volume I then one really needs to reexamine his or her life.

George said:

But well take our chances
Because God stopped keeping score
I guess somewhere along the way
He must have let us all out to play
Turned his back and all gods children
Crept out the back door
.

Answers to all issues can be found somewhere within the glorious confines of this timeless gem.

Sife, I actually think that that album has some really beautiful, underrated music ... but the lyrical "theology" is still atrocious. :-)
