No TV?

This is an interesting article about life without a TV. I would be so into this if it weren't for the NFL and my new found love for fantasy football (call me a nerd if you want, but once you play you'll be hooked). My other two shows (Lost and The Office) we can watch online whenever we feel the need.

Thanks for presenting issues from a Biblical perspective!

Quite unintentionally, I have lived for about four years without a TV. I don't miss it much, although I spend far too much time on the Internet.

My wife and I only recently cut cable. So we have a TV, a Wii and a DVD player (which means lots of entertainment options) but no cable. We'll miss some of our shows, for sure, especially since we can't generally watch them online up here in Canada.

No TV for kids is a really great idea. Unfortunately, my husband and I are watchers. Like you said, the sports issue is a problem and we watch a lot of news, so I don't see us giving it up. My children don't watch children's programming at all. They watched some of the Olympics this summer and once in a while, (once a month) they watch a movie or animal planet. These kids are inventive, fit, great readers, and aren't bombarded with junk food ads, toy ads, or negative body issues or attitudes. It's great.

When I moved to Albuquerque from D.C., I didn't bring a TV with me, and I honestly had little intention of buying one. After almost a year, I still don't own one. I do watch the TV that my roommate has (it's in a common area of the house), although I do so mostly for political coverage and for movies at times.

There is not one TV series, other than certain political commentary shows and "Wretched, with Todd Friel," (an actual theologically sound Christian show!) that I watch on anything resembling a regular basis. So many TV series not only portray, but absolutely *glorify,* thinking and behavior that God hates. Therefore, I can't bring myself to watch them. Why should I enjoy the glorification of what God hates? (I do believe that one can sometimes *portray* sin in a show or movie without necessarily glorifying it, but it must be done very carefully, and anyway, that's another subject.) I'm also not much of a sports fan, so watching games is not a reason for me to own a TV.

If or when I father children, my (future) wife and I will own a TV but will probably not even have basic cable. We will watch age-appropriate DVDs with our children and movies on DVD by ourselves, after the children have gone to bed. Most of "regular" TV is even more of a moral and intellectual wasteland now than it was when I was a child (early 70s-early 80s).

Bro. leave the NFL for once or twice a year with friends. forget the time-killer of fantasy football.
I promise you'll thank me and never look back.

I have lived TV FREE for 7 years now and it has been glorious. Our family life is much richer without it.

My wife and I have been without TV for about 4 months, but we do watch the occasional DVD. Without a doubt it has been great for us. The one problem for me, however, is interacting with others in my workplace or my church in relation to things of interest to them. This was especially difficult during the Olympics, and is difficult now that college and NFL football is in season. As a result, I am seriously thinking about reconnecting.
