Remorse?

Dr. Anthony Bradley asks a good question for pro-life, Obama voting, Christians:

I wonder if the many pro-life Christians who supported Obama had any idea how aggressive he would be at fulfilling his campaign promises to expand abortion in US and abroad so soon?

In his comment section, this was the first comment which I also found intriguing:

I wonder how Brian McLaren (A Generous Orthodoxy, A New Kind of Christian) and Donald Miller (Blue Like Jazz) feel since they specifically made a case that Obama is the best option for the pro-life cause. Here are two representative quotes.

McLaren: "But in regards to abortion along with many other issues, we are convinced - firmly, thoughtfully, and enthusiastically convinced - that casting our vote for Obama is a step in the right direction, fully consistent with our desire to celebrate the sacredness of life and improve the moral health of our nation and world."

Miller: Obama "will accomplish more than John McCain" on the abortion issue and has proposed the only "realistic strategy that can move us around the cultural impasse that is breathing hate and anger into the Christian community."

I wonder how increasing funding for abortion services is a step in the right direction or is part of a realistic strategy to decrease the number of abortions.

Sounds familiar.

You have to give Obama credit; he is a man of his word.

Specifically, I'm curious about the people who defended Obama on this blog as a reasonable candidate for pro-life Christians. I would like to hear what they have to say now, in light of these recent developments? If you are a pro-life Christian, and you voted for Obama, do you still think that his positions on other issues make it worth "overlooking" (for lack of a better term) his downright militancy on the "abortion rights" issue?

One good thing about Bush, for all of his flaws, is that he appointed pro-life judges to the Supreme Court. This was *huge* for the pro-life cause. It will take a miracle for Obama to do such a thing... so I'm praying for a miracle.

- They won't say anything now. Were I them, I'd have trouble sleeping at night.

I personally sleep well at night. I'm still not convinced that very many people (including our new president) are PRO-Abortion.

I'm going to focus on praying for the Obama presidency...one which God has allowed. After all, those of us who voted surely prayed for God's will to be done and we have to trust that it has been done.

- I prayed for God's will to be done and then I went to the strip club this weekend and snorted a bunch of coke. Guess that was his will.

oh sife, you're so silly. you make me laugh a lot. i can recommend a good rehab center for you if you wish.

I especially like the way you "quote" everyone when you start each post. that's so nice to remind us of what we've written.

Amy,

I know Sife tends to have a tone that might not be palatable for most folks, but I think he has a point that you might want to interact with.

so what do you make of me, a praying Christian, asking God for His will to be done in this election, and asking Him, sincerely, to change my heart before voting if it was sinful and/or incorrect to vote for Barack Obama, and having COMPLETE peace about my vote? I'm sure you would say, "she's not a christian", right?

I'm not sure that personal experience is the best test for right and wrong. Calvin says that our hearts are idol factories that we bow down to at every turn. "Having peace" might not be the best test for decision making. It honestly what the Mormons say when they try to convert you. "Just pray and God will reveal his truth to you in your heart"

Human experience may or may not be a good indicator in light of how sinful our hearts are. I would start with God's word and that would show me that I can never align myself with a guy like Obama, no matter what. But we went around that one quite a bit before the election. But we can do it again if you want!

No, I do not want to go round and round again, which is why I haven't been posting (contrary to some who think it's because I'm remorseful).

I am not of the Mormon mindset either--just waiting for the word of God to be revealed to me. This is the prayer, "Lord, please change my heart in this election, if it is not your will for me to vote for Barack Obama". I pray prayers like this for my sin to be revealed to me and for direction in my life. "Acknowledge Him in all your ways, and He will direct your paths".

All in all, I really don't think it matters as much as we think it does (who's president). I have a feeling that it's much ado about hardly anything. Making abortion illegal will not change the world's view and behavior about it. Only Christ revealing Himself to them can do that. We should focus more (or all) on evangelism instead of just trying to change behavior of the enemies of God.

Amy,

So should Christians be in favor of an anarchy since laws don't change peoples hearts?

- Then, as I suspected, you're not reading the articles linked about Obama's executive order. More kids will be murdered in the womb because he's President. You cannot be honest and deny that.

- It appears that with this statement, you're tacitly admitting that Obama is an "enemy of God".
