Filthy Roman Sponge

Powerful.

This is mighty powerful. I wonder, though, what the evidence is that it was definitely used like this in Jesus' specific case. I'd be interested to hear Driscoll's reasons or resources.

You can't trust anything Driscoll says now a days. First he destroyed Song Of Solomon by adding to the text's his own meaning and now he is doing the same thing again. The truth is enough, the Bible text is enough this is pure speculation!

P.S. Im not a Driscoll hater I was really into him in the past but he has continued to show that he will add what he wants when he wants to a text to say what he wants.

Mr. Z, what do you think about it?

I make it a point to not respond to anonymous comments. If you identify yourself, I will.

Anonymous blog commenter (Bible College Student?) says you can't trust Driscoll. The great pastors/theologians of the western world are working with him.

Hmmmm

i believe that God is using mark driscoll and believe that people respect and listen to his words like this..
but my respect for him when down about 100 times (including a lot of people who are hanging out with m's) after his comment in christianity today. how embarrassing!

M B Redmond, If I were a college student I probably wouldn't challenge anything Driscoll said but blindly defend and follow him like yourself.

Did you not think he was speculating on the story of the sponge? Are we free to speculate on every text we want? Did you not think he ruined Song of Solomon?

If all the Great theologians of the Western world loved Oprah would you still use that argument? It's God's word that we test things by not our earthly idols (pastors) who we hold up above scripture.
Even Mr.Piper was concerned with his Song of Solomon sermon.

Anonymous and M B Redmond. I see both points.

He did mess up Song of Solomon and I feel that he may speculate a little to much but I do feel that God is really using him. But for everyone out their who loves him blindly (and other popular pastors for that matter) always check everything being said with scripture. I love Packer, MacArthur, and Piper but I know they are just men and can mess up at any time with good intensions.

Vitimin Z what is your opinion?

Driscoll is a sinner just like the rest of us. He has elders who check him. If they don't check him the way we see fit, I don't see what we can do about it other than complain in blog comment sections which in my view isn't really that fruitful in light of Eph 4:29, (especially if you are anonymous). Anyone can drop bombs from the secure cover of anonymity, but I fail to see how that measures up to any standard of Biblical honest or confrontation.
