No one adopts a child in a historical vacuum. There is always a backstory behind the decision to adopt. The backstory behind our family’s two adoption journeys really began to take shape ten years ago today.
On October 12th, 1999, my wife gave birth to our second child and first son, Daniel William Cruver, II. Daniel entered this world with many dreams and hopes attached to him. We had prayed many times that God would give us a son whom He would use in some small way to advance the kingdom of Christ in this world. God was gracious to answer our prayers, but He did not answer them as we had hoped He would.
Daniel’s three year life (he died on November 19th, 2002) was filled with unrelenting suffering. His body was ravaged by 40-60 seizures almost everyday of his brief life. But it was through Daniel’s deep suffering that God both sent our family on two wonderful adoption journeys and graciously raised up the ministry of Together for Adoption.
Daniel would have turned ten years old today. By God’s mysterious grace Daniel’s story is the backstory behind both our family’s adoptions and the birth of the ministry of Together for Adoption. Though God’s ways are often mysterious and painful, they always result in much redemptive and unanticipated good, and for that I am deeply grateful.
You can read a little about Daniel’s story here.
I would encourage you to read Daniel's story. It is very powerful.
