I would be that 61 year old he is talking to. I have been married to the same man for 44 years and we have been through some catastrophic life events, including the tragic death of our only child in an auto accident. My husband is ill and I am sometimes very tired of all that falls on me alone.
I vowed to God that in this life I would hold to this man in sickness and in health and for better or worse. Many times love has indeed had little to do with either of us staying. When our son was killed-we both grieved in such different ways that I thought I would lose my mind.
It is ultimately about loving God more than loving and desiring your own needs being met. I wish this modern generation could just get a godly revelation of loving God and being faithful to him-that would take care of being true to all other covenants.
