Suffering, Patience, and Vengeance

In light of the Tucson shootings this passage of Scripture was a comforting reminder this morning.

[5] This is evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are also suffering— [6] since indeed God considers it just to repay with affliction those who afflict you, [7] and to grant relief to you who are afflicted as well as to us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels...
(2 Thessalonians 1:5-7 ESV)
Notice that it points us to the fact that one day all justice will be laid down.  We yearn for it immediately, but God, in his wisdom, exhorts us to have patience.  It will come, but it probably won't come immediately.  Patience is the pathway to endurance in suffering.  Tears are certainly it's companion but ultimate despair is not our lot.
