On the Automobile and the Erosion of the Church

Carl Trueman makes a really good point.  Far fetched, but true nonetheless.  He writes about how the automobile and luxury of transportation erodes away at the purity of the church.

I have seen the truth of his piece in action.

I think Trueman is only looking at the glass as being half-full here. True, you can skip town in your car when you've made a mistake BUT you can also skip town when the church is in flagrant error. What if the only church within walking distance preaches a different gospel than the true gospel? What if the only church within walking distance is sinking in liberalism? Then ought we not to thank God for a car which can get us to a good church on the other side of town?

I get Trueman's point but I think more at root is this:
