Spiritual Alzheimers - Part 6

Let's look at a passage from the New Testament that illustrates what I have been arguing for in these past five posts on this topic.
Romans 8:32 - 32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?
Can you see the past tense and future tense in this verse? Can you see the looking back for the sake of the future? Can you see how this verse would be the cure for the disease of spiritual Alzheimers disease?

What is Paul doing here? See the word, "gave"? This is what Paul is calling us to remember. Like God calling out to the Israelites, "Hey, remember what I did to Pharaoh on your behalf?". Paul is calling us to remember what God did through the death of his Son.

But this death and resurrection has present and future implications! See the word, "will" in the second half of the verse? This the present/future application. If God already did the hard thing of giving up his Son for us, how could we doubt that he will provide for us in the future? May our remembrance of what God did in our collective past propel us forward into the future with faith.

Notice also the word, "all". Not just some of your needs. ALL your needs. That is a big all.

Don’t stress! Remember the gospel. He has met your greatest need already in the past. Believe his provision for you today and every future minute that you have.

BTW - John Piper has a GREAT chapter on this verse in his book, Future Grace.
