Three Chords and a Dream

That is all you need to go a long way in the music biz.  Well, not exactly, but that is how the saying goes.

It's amazing and must be some sort of an American thing that almost everyone is a guitar player.  Well, not really, but it seems that way at times.  When I open up auditions for musicians at church the number of people who sign up who can bang out a few chords on the acoustic guitar far out numbers that number of drummers or bass players that I get.

If you want to be named in that select (or not so select) group this post is for you.  The Art of Manliness blog has a post called, "3 Guitar Chords Every Man Should Know".   It teaches you how to play those chords and then shows you a good bit of songs that you can play just by simply knowing those three chords.

It's a universal thing. I help with a young adults' leadership camp in Russia and it seems like all of my friends there "play" guitar (at least the big three chords anyway). The students in the city I go to tend to be more musical (and artistic and athletic) in general though, I've found.

Go for broke and add the minor 6, and you can do most any song....!

But not Billy Joel (except for Piano Man, but that's in C and you can't play Piano Man on the guitar, right?)

Every male in America between the ages of 16 and 28 plays the guitar at some point because it is, by far, the easiest instrument to play, and because it takes, by far, the least amount of actual skill to become passable.
